Quick Start

Get from zero to a working Spec Kit session in about 10 minutes.

If your organization has not subscribed or assigned seats yet, an organization admin must complete Admin Setup first. Members can then follow the steps below.

Prerequisites

  • An Azure DevOps organization and project
  • Permission to install marketplace extensions (or an admin who already installed Spec Kit)
  • A seat on the Raaghu Spec Kit subscription (an admin assigns seats)

Steps

1. Install and open

  1. Install Raaghu Spec Kit from the Visual Studio Marketplace (Azure DevOps tab), if it is not installed yet.
  2. Open a project → left sidebar → Raaghu Spec Kit.

Details: Installation and Launch.

2. Authorize with Microsoft

  1. On the landing page, click Authorize Now.
  2. Complete Microsoft sign-in and approve access.
  3. If you see "Request submitted. Retry authorization after admin approval", ask an admin to approve you (Access Requests), then click Authorize Now again.

3. Get a seat

Raaghu Spec Kit is seat-based. Approving access is not the same as assigning a seat.

  • Admins: Azure DevOps → Organization settingsRaaghu Spec KitUsersAssign seat. See Organization Settings.
  • Members: Ask an admin to assign you a seat. Until then, you may see a seat or subscription message.

4. Initialize Spec Kit (once per project)

  1. If Spec Kit is not set up yet, click Initialize Spec Kit.
  2. Wait for "Initialization complete!".

This creates the Speckit/ tree in your project Wiki. Do this once per project.

Details: Initialize Spec Kit.

5. Connect AI

  1. Open the hamburger menu → Settings.
  2. On Project Settings, choose how this project gets AI:
SituationWhat to do
Your admin already set shared org AI or Raaghu-hosted AILeave Admin selected
You need your own provider keyChoose Custom, add Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, or Claude, save, and set it as Default
Chat still shows "LLM is not configured"Ask an admin to set org AI defaults, enable Raaghu-hosted AI, or confirm you should use Custom

Details: Settings.

6. Continue to your first feature

Go to Your First Feature to run the full command sequence and sync work items to Azure Boards.

The first time you enter the workspace, a short product tour may appear. You can dismiss it — it is optional.
